About Me
From a very young age I was taught the importance of giving back to your community. You should help if you can, when you can, as often as you can. As an active Girl Scout, I was taught communication and leadership skills that I still use today. Throughout the 10+ years I was a scout, I participated in a variety of projects including packing ‘welcome bags’ for women entering domestic violence shelters, coordinating food and clothing drives, facilitating training programs for younger scouts on topics like heart health and seat belt safety, and so much more. Eventually, I was able to earn my Gold Award, the highest award achievable in Girl Scouts, by designing and installing a fitness trail at the local District scouting office.
I relocated to Glynn County, Georgia after completing my Bachelors of Science in Marine Biology at the University of Rhode Island. I was hired as a Marine Science Instructor at the Jekyll Island 4H Center. In my first year in Glynn County, I taught over 10,000 students (K-12, and early college) about coastal Georgia’s unique ecosystems and wildlife, including students from local Glynn County schools like Altama Elementary - many of whom had never seen the beach before. Since then, I have spent the last 13+ years educating students and visitors, of diverse ages and backgrounds, through the positions I’ve held with University of Georgia 4H Cooperative Extension program, the Lodge at Little St. Simons, Satilla Riverkeeper, and currently through my employment with the Glynn Environmental Coalition.

Throughout my time in Glynn County, I’ve had the privilege of providing programs and resources to students in local schools including, but not limited to, Burroughs-Molette, Satilla Marsh, Glynn Middle, Glynn Academy, as well as schools in Brantley and Ware County, at the College of Coastal Georgia and Coastal Pines Technical College. I have been recognized locally by the College of Coastal Georgia, having twice received the Outstanding Community Partner - Excellence in Service-Learning Award (2022 and 2024). I have also been nationally recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, having twice received the National Notable Achievement Award for Citizen Excellence in Community Involvement (2019 and 2025).

Outside of work, I am blessed to be a part of a blended family. My husband, Cheston Broomell, has two girls that I am privileged to call my bonus daughters. They are rising 7th and 9th graders, working their way through the Glynn County School system. I served for two years as the Vice President of the Parent Teacher Association while our daughters were attending Golden Isles Elementary School. I have also served on the Board of Directors for Pull For A Kid and I am an active member of a number of local nonprofit organizations like Keep Golden Isles Beautiful, The Abbott Institute, A Better Glynn, and more.
In 2022, with support from my family and peers, I made the courageous decision to run for the District 4 Board of Education elected position. During my campaign, I attended dozens of community oriented events, City of Brunswick Neighborhood Planning Assembly meetings, and knocked on the doors of hundreds of residents in District 4. I am not afraid to “meet citizens where they are” and believe it is critically important for elected officials to share space with residents, discuss community successes and assets, listen to concerns and challenges, and come together to define solutions. After about 10 months of campaigning, I earned 2,209 votes, coming just 197 votes shy of securing the position.
I believe in honesty and transparency in government. I am ready to serve and to advocate for Glynn County students, families, staff, and administrators. I believe in cultivating a Glynn County Schools system that uplifts all of Glynn County. Education is what brought me to Glynn County and it would be an honor to serve on the Glynn County Board of Education.
